CVS Extra Care Bucks Update

Alright, so I posted a while back about my confusion and doubt in regards to CVS Extra Care Bucks and whether or not it would actually work for me.

I went to my local CVS and picked up both the weekly flyer and the one with the monthly deals and items that had higher ECB values.

I then went through both flyers and made a list of the items that I planned on buying, only choosing items that I normally would buy. I then headed to the store.

I bought everything that I had marked, a total of 19 items. The total without the CVS card was $98.66, with the card my total went to $67.09, for a total savings of $31.57. At the bottom of the slip is a list of the items I purchased that earned ECB for that week, total of 3 items for me; cereal earned 10 ECB, Listerine earned 3.49 ECB, and Coppertone Sunblock earned 2 ECB, for a total of 15.49 in ECB. It’s funny how protective I’ve become of those ECB at the bottom of my receipt, I am usually horrible at keeping track of receipts, and usually just throw them out!

I was pretty pleased with my first trip to CVS and plan on continuing with this little project of mine. I am hoping that the learning curve isn’t too steep and I will quickly learn the tricks to ECB at CVS. The current quarter for ECB redemption ends on July 12, 2008. At that point I will re-assess and decide whether or not to continue using this program.

How are you doing with the program? Share your tips and tricks with me, please!

  • ECB tricks:

If you’re buying multiple products, but only some of them will give you some ECBs, buy ONLY those product first. That way, you instantly get your ECBs back and maybe some other coupons, which you can immediately use to purchase the rest of your items.

And stock up on items that offer ECBs that you use regularly (like toothpaste). You’ll stock up and save time and money. And you can still use those ECBs to buy other things.

Also, hold on to those coupons. You never know when you might want to use them and when the items for those coupons go on sale — which means more savings for you.

  • Great tip! Thanks so much.

  • I do this too… and use coupons from my Sunday paper… that possibly could have gotten your $67.09 down to about $30. I use http://www.thegrocerygame.com and it matches up coupons with the sale & ECB’s so you can end up with free things each week! :)

  • I tried the grocery game before and didn’t really get it. Maybe I’ll try again. Thanks for the tip!
