This week I participated in two personal finance carnivals; The Festival of Frugality #136-Summer School Edition, hosted by Student Scrooge, as well as the Money Hacks Carnival #23-It’s gotta be the shoes! hosted by Can I Get Rich on a Salary.
Student Scrooge put a fun spin on this week’s carnival submissions by organizing them into typical school subjects. My article, “24 Ways to Save Around the House” was featured under the Environmental Science category.
I’ve listed my favorite submission in each of the other ‘periods’;
- Philosophy-Mrs. Nespy’s Frugal World reflects back on how to find the time to get more done, with some sobering suggestions to limit how much you — and your children and family — tackle in order to make time to enjoy life.
- Home Econ. and Cooking-The Family Wallet provides ten great tips for reducing cost at the grocery store, including going generic, reducing portions, making the most of what the grocery store offers, and more.
- Geography (and Travel)-The FindAirlineCards Travel Blog offers suggestions on how to score an upgrade to first class on vacation for free.
- Economics and Personal Finance-Cash Money Life continues his project of telling us how to become millionaires, this time focusing on spending less than you earn. Tips include analyzing your financial habits, making a budget, finding places to cut back, and more.
- Auto/Shop-The Personal Finance Blog by Money Ning looks at how a frugal minded person should approach car expenses, including when to purchase, what to buy, how to finance it, and how to handle maintenance.
- Child Care Education-The Mortgage Blog looks at how to save money raising children when it comes to such issues as impulse buying, pocket money, and more.
- After School Chores-No Debt Plan just saved 66% on Shampoo and Conditioner at the drugstore. I particularly liked how this went beyond just the drugstore game to include distance considerations as well.
- Extra Credit-The Simple Wealth retells a recent successful coupon mission at Wal-Mart, with an impressive savings to show for it. It is amazing what can be done with coupons.
Can I Get Rich on a Salary featured my article, “10 Ways to Save at the Grocery Store“. This Money Hacks Carnival was funny and playful with Dwayne asking MJ for the secret to being the best personal-finance guru in the universe. In the end, Dwayne learns that there is no one secret, it’s about all the things Dwayne asked about. To find out MJ’s secret to personal finance success, head on over and check out the other great articles in this week’s Money Hacks Carnival.
